January feels like a tough month for many, especially SEND parents; dark, chilly, wet, snowy (if you’re lucky!) and a long time until pay day are all known to have an effect on the general population. It’s also when we traditionally take a closer look at our lives and decide what changes we’d like to make – anyone reading a fan of resolutions?! It can all lead to a lot of extra pressure on top of our ever-challenging lives, and that often comes out in writing at this time. It can also lead to taking stock and appreciating, and that’s just what Gym Bunny Mummy has done in her beautiful post ‘If I Could Take It Away‘. Looking for Blue Sky reflected on how Christmas had been in The Ups and Downs of Christmas and it was lovely to hear how well everything had gone for Lisa with the help of some careful planning in Savage Christmas 2015.
Mama Owl did what many of us also do; turned her thoughts to sun and holidays. Her post Autism Abroad talks about her week in Latikira with Mark Warner – and I don’t know about you, but I wish I was there right now! Diary of an Imperfect Mum shared two great posts with us, one highlighting what the differences may be at Christmas for a child with autism and the other a remake of the classic ‘Welcome to Holland‘ post (like marmite, people generally love it or hate it).
Others began to think more about schooling issues; Rainbows Too Are Beautiful looked at SEN: Choosing a mainstream school and Lisa at mrssavageangel looked at an issue which affects many; the uncertainty of The Application. I came across a brilliant post written by a teacher which I definitely think is worth sharing, simply called ‘Inclusion…’. If only everyone in schools shared this caring attitude and willingness to learn more, wouldn’t the world be a better place?!
There was a big milestone for me this month; six years since I started blogging, six years since the word autism sprang into our lives. I’d love you to pop over and see what I hope my message for the year ahead will be, in my post Six years on; still talking about autism.
Finishing up this round-up with the big news in the world of SEND this week; the announcement of the new Antenatal Screening for Down’s Syndrome. There’s so much to say and consider on this topic; Down In Front, please, Downright Joy, and The Diary Of A Not So Ordinary Boy gave us plenty of food for thought, and Hayley summed it all up as eloquently as usual in her post over on Downs Side Up.
Hoping that February is a good one for you all, please do link up your posts below if you’d like to see them featured!
